My dog must be a mountain feist dog

So I was looking around today trying to find pictures of other fiests out there. Some stranger told me once while seeing Onyx at a Gallatin event that she looked just like a feist. Ever since I’ve told people that she is probably a feist mix but I still don’t know for sure because Onyx was a pound puppy. For those who don’t know Onyx very well, she is the best dog that I could have picked up. As far as I know her birthday is likely around the middle to end of October and this year she will be turning 8 years old. I’ve already noticed she’s getting a little gray hair on her chin and she does a lot of moaning an groaning if you make her move while she’s snuggled up in a blanket or something. So anyways I decided to look around for pictures of feists. Here are just a few pictures I quickly found that look an awful lot like Onyx today or when she was very young.

Now to be clear, none of these pictures are of Onyx, but they all look a whole lot like her. I’m going to add a couple other pictures to the bottom here as well so you can clearly see just how much they all look alike. Onyx clearly has feist like features because when you look on Google these are 3 of the pictures that pull up. Feists apparently have many types of fur coloring they can be and they also vary anywhere from 10-30 pounds, which Onyx weighs about 25. She’s very well tempered and a great loyal friend to all just like feists are described as. So I think this makes the case that Onyx is a feist. I’ve told many people this is what she seems to be but now you can clearly see for yourself that she must be mostly feist.

  1. My dog is the twin of yours. His name is Ernie. We got him from the pound. He is very much a feist, very energetic and playful.

  2. my dog looks exactly like yours, and a stranger also told me that she’s a feist and ever since that’s what I tell people she is. She is a handful even at 3 years but super sweet and athletic.

  3. Thanks for this small collection of Feist photos. My dog also looks like all the photos here, you can see her on facebook as Kazoo. I adopted her as a mixed breed from Rocky Ridge Refuge in Arkansas. From my research of the “breed” after my vet mentioned she looks like a Feist (which resulted in my finding your cache of photos) I learned that the black Feists are unusual as hunting dog owners prefer their dogs to be mostly or at least partly white for easier visibility. Kazoo is very typical of the breed – loving, friendly, very very snuggley. Currently acting up as a teenager dog.

    • I’m glad to see a number of people have the same issue as I did not knowing what breed my dog was. I’m happy to report that Onyx is currently 10 years old and acts like she’s 5, hoping I’ll have her for another 5 or more

  4. My black mouth feist Bella recently went to heaven & she looks quite similar to your Onyx. She was the best dog I could ever have & the only daughter the Lord chose for me! I have lost my heart & dunno where to go from here. Bella was my EVERYTHING!

  5. She looks just like my feist mix I mean like they could be related I wonder from this post how old she is now my feist is about to be 12.

    • Sorry to say Onyx passed away in 2018, she was 15.5 years old. Unsure what she had but the last two years she was on meds because she stopped eating. She was doing great but in her last few days she seemed in pain and had a severe seizure. She was off and confused for a day, then in obvious pain. We just didn’t want her to be in any more pain and they didn’t know what was wrong, likely some form of cancer. We miss her greatly, best dog and friend I ever had.
